JoAnn R. DiNoto ('84) is a Lieutenant in the Amherst Police Department, the first woman in the history of the Department to achieve that rank.

After graduating from East High School, she attended SUNY at Buffalo where she played Field Hockey and Softball while earning a degree in Early Childhood Development. DiNoto then entered the Erie County Central Police Services Training Academy and upon graduation in December 1988, was assigned to the Riverside/Black Rock Precinct as an officer with the Buffalo Police Department.

During her two-year tenure with the Buffalo Police, she received the Officer of the Month Award in March of 1989 and the Mayor's Award of Merit later that year. In 1990, Officer DiNoto joined the Amherst Police Department and has since received the Amherst Bee Officer of the Year and the Muck Officer of the Year Award.

She is currently assigned as Patrol Lieutenant on the midnight shift and is in charge of the Tactical Bike Detail. She also lectures at the Citizens Police Academy, sponsored by the Amherst Police Department. DiNoto resides with her husband and children in Williamsville.
