FAQs
What is the Williamsville Education Foundation?
The Foundation was established in 1997 by a group of community, business, and parent leaders who wanted to ensure the continuing excellence of Williamsville Central Schools. The Foundation is an independent, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation run by a volunteer Board of Directors. As a private, non-profit organization separate from the Williamsville Central School District, the Foundation depends 100% on the generosity of the community in order to support its mission to enhance learning opportunities for all children attending Williamsville schools.
Why do we need a Foundation?
In these challenging economic times, our mission has never been more important: fund worthwhile projects in our schools that otherwise would never happen or may be eliminated due to budget constraints of the school district. Whether a parent of a student or a resident without children in the District schools, ensuring the leading-edge excellence of our schools is critical – for our children’s education as well as for property values in our community.
Who is on the Foundation Board?
The Williamsville Education Foundation Board is comprised of a cross-section of community leaders who support quality education for all students within the Williamsville Central School District. The Foundation Board consists of as many as 15 very dedicated members representing a broad base of knowledge and expertise. A member of the Williamsville school board, the Superintendent, and a district staff liaison serve as non-voting members of the Foundation Board.
Where does the money go?
The Williamsville Education Foundation, Inc. provides financial support and enrichment programs for the students of the Williamsville Central School District. For example, the Foundation’s mini-grant program directly impacts the learning experience for our children. The grants, generally about $500 each, finance educational opportunities outside the scope of the school operating budget. They enable teachers to create innovative programs within their classrooms, purchase equipment that gets them up to technological speed, and provide materials to create intriguing hands-on projects for students that enhance their educational experience. In addition, the Foundation supports the biennial Williamsville Wall of Fame, which honors alumni of each high school who have distinguished themselves in their careers and through outstanding service to their communities.
