Dr. David Evans is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a nationally recognized AIDS researcher. He joined the faculty of his alma mater in the summer of 2013, returning to UW-Madison where he earned his doctorate in Cellular & Molecular Biology.
Prior to moving to UW-Madison, Dr. Evans was an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunobiology at the New England Primate Research Center, Harvard Medical School. In 2006, his innovative work earned him national attention when he was named one of the most promising HIV/AIDS researchers by the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, receiving the prestigious Elizabeth Glaser Scientist Award. Dr. Evans’ research program is currently directed towards understanding host-pathogen interactions for the human and simian immunodeficiency viruses to provide the basic scientific foundation needed for the development of a safe and effective vaccine against HIV.
Dr. Evans has published extensively and serves on editorial boards for Virology, the Journal of Virology, and AIDS Research & Human Retroviruses. He is also a standing member of the National Institutes of Health AIDS Immunology and Pathogenesis Study Section. Dr[A1] . Evans earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Cornell University, graduating magna cum laude in 1992.
After receiving his Ph.D. from UW-Madison in 1997, he married Erica M. Schorr, D.V.M., a graduate of Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin School Of Veterinary Medicine. Their daughter Abigail was born in 2003. As a student at Williamsville North, Dr. Evans was a captain on the Men’s Gymnastics team and a member of the Science Olympiad team.
