Gina Bronkie Hammond

Gina Bronkie Hammond recently retired after a 40+ year career working on the leading edge of the computer science and engineering industry. She ended her pioneering career as Director and Vice President of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in Falls Church, VA where she led the company’s North America Public Sector, supporting the Defense Division.

After graduating from high school, Ms. Hammond earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Vassar College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  She received a fellowship to pursue her master’s degree in computer science and engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo as part of a small group of exceptional women pursuing computer science and engineering education. When she completed her master’s, she entered the growing computer science field, serving in increasingly more responsible positions and gaining experience in programming, systems analysis, program management, consulting, and contract management. At CSC, she continued to climb the career ladder, at one point managing over 800 employees and overseeing the production of more than 400 contract and task order bids.

A generous philanthropist, Ms. Hammond was the first to give a major gift to UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences for a new high-tech engineering building. In recognition of her generosity, UB has named a CSE laboratory in her honor. The Gina Bronkie Hammond Laboratory is located in the new home of the School’s Departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering on UB’s Amherst Campus. In 2009, she was the first female recipient of the Dean’s Award from the UB School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and in 2011, was honored with UB’s Distinguished Alumni Award.

Ms. Hammond continues to be an active volunteer for her alma maters, serving as a member of the Dean’s Council for the UB School of Engineering, and on various committees at Vassar College. She also has held leadership positions in the Episcopal Church, most recently heading several committees at the Trinity Episcopal Church near her home in Virginia.
