COL Dave Henning attended the Canisius College of Buffalo NY earning a Bachelor of Science degree and the title of Distinguished Military Graduate. Dave was commissioned in May 2000.
COL Henning’s first assignment was with the 4th Infantry Division. Shortly after 9/11, COL Henning deployed to Kuwait supporting Operation Enduring Freedom followed by a deployment to Iraq for the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dave’s next assignment was in Seoul, South Korea., COL Henning was then assessed and selected for US Army Special Operations Forces (ARSOF). Dave completed the basic Airborne Course and 1-year Training Pathway for SOF Civil Affairs (CA).
Dave then deployed to Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines. In his next assignment, with 2nd Battalion 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), he deployed to Afghanistan and was critical to the success of the “Village Stability Operations” program. COL Henning returned to Fort Bragg, NC, and quickly deployed to support efforts within Special Operations Command-Pacific and Special Operations Command-Korea.
COL Henning was both a Company Commander and Battalion Operations officer in the 97th CA BN (A) before being assigned to a nominative position. After commanding the Jacksonville Recruiting Battalion, Dave assumed duties as the senior CA Officer at Headquarters US Special Operations Command.
Dave is currently attending the College of International Security Affairs at the National Defense University for Senior Service Staff College and is scheduled to take command of the US Army Garrison Daegu, South Korea, in June of 2023.
His awards and decorations include: The Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Drivers Badge, Basic Parachutist Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in Gold and the Recruiter Badge.
Dave is married to Michelle Henning; they have two boys, William(17) and Carson(14), and currently reside in Alexandria, Virginia with their dog Jethro.
