Jacob Gewurz - Special Agent, IRS-Criminal Investigator – Class of 2011

Jacob Gewurz grew up in Amherst and is a Williamsville South High School graduate from the Class of 2011. After high school, Jacob attended the University at Buffalo, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  He then pursued a Master’s degree in Forensic Accounting at Canisius College, where he discovered his passion for investigation. Today, Jacob is both a licensed Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

In December 2020, Jacob joined the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), as a Special Agent trainee. Over the next several months, he trained at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia. After completing the Criminal Investigator Training Program and the IRS Special Agent Basic Training course, Jacob graduated as a Special Agent and returned to Buffalo to begin his role.
As a Special Agent, Jacob investigates criminal violations of the Internal Revenue Code and other financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud. Although his work is confidential, Jacob is proud to be part of a nationally specialized team that last year referred over 1,800 cases for prosecution (primarily in tax fraud), achieving a successful prosecution rate of over 88%.

Outside of work, Jacob enjoys playing golf and is an avid sports fan with season tickets to both the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Bandits. He, along with his dad and brother, are on a quest to visit all 30 major league baseball stadiums in the U.S., with only four left to go! Jacob also loves attending shows at Shea’s and reminisces about his time in the pit orchestra at Williamsville South. He enjoys traveling and has visited destinations such as Israel, Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and London, with Ireland next on his list. In his free time, Jacob enjoys cooking with his girlfriend, Megan, and spending time with friends and family.
