Marvin K. Malek, M.D. MPH

Marvin K. Malek, M.D. MPH('69) is currently the medical director of the South Troy Health Center in Troy, NY. After graduating from North HS in 1969, Malek attended Cornell University and the SUNY Upstate Medical School in Albany where he earned his M.D. in 1978. He later received a masters degree in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. He did his residency in internal medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, and has since served as a staff physician at hospitals and health centers in Arizona, Boston (MA), Albany and Troy. He is presently on staff at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy and Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Dr. Malek played a pivotal role in creating the South Troy Health Center, an affiliate of Troy's Samaritan Hospital. The Center serves the health and medical needs of an ethnically diverse, indigent community. He is also a clinical assistant professor of Medicine at the Albany Medical College and has served as an instructor or lecturer at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, Tufts Medical School, SUNY Albany, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Malek has published articles on violence and fighting behavior among middle school students in the Journal of Adolescent Health and has presented on topics related to public health practice and adolescent health care. Since 1996, he has volunteered his time to supervise medical services at Joseph House, a homeless shelter in Troy.
