Nirav R. Shah, M.D., M.P.H.

Nirav R. Shah, M.D., M.P.H., 1990 – Dr. Shah is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director for Research at the New York University School of Medicine, and Associate Investigator at the Geisinger Center for Health Research in Danville, PA.

Dr. Shah graduated from Harvard University in 1994 and went on to Yale University School of Medicine where, during medical school, he completed a master’s degree with honors in Public Health. He has completed additional postdoctoral training as a Fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at UCLA School of Public Health earning a Ph.D. in Epidemiology.

In addition to teaching numerous classes at NYU and Geisinger, Dr. Shah is a dedicated researcher with a focus on improving health outcomes and health care delivery for vulnerable populations in two very diverse settings: the public hospital system of New York City and the rural, aging population of eastern Pennsylvania. For someone at the threshold of his career, he is recognized for having an exceptionally strong publication record with dozens of research abstracts, papers, and book chapters already to his credit. He also serves on the editorial boards of several medical journals and currently is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine’s Evidence-based Medicine Task Force.

His extraordinary promise was evident throughout his high school years when he served as president of the National Honor Society and was a member of the Science Club, Math Club, Latin Club, Chess Club, Stock Market Team, and boys’ swim team. Not surprisingly, Nirav was valedictorian of his high school senior class.
