Bradley Sprague has lived in Williamsville all of his life, attending Williamsville South for high school. While at South, Brad began his firefighting journey by joining the Main-Transit Fire Department as a junior firefighter.
After becoming an active volunteer member at the age of 18, he focused on rising through the leadership ranks of the department holding the positions of EMS Lieutenant, EMS Captain, Fire Captain, Assistant Chief and currently Fire Chief.
Brad has been recognized by the Erie County Legislature and New York State Assembly for performing lifesaving interventions on a 11-month-old near drowning patient. He has also been recognized numerous times by Main-Transit as a top call responder.
Brad faced the largest challenge of his firefighting career during his first year as Chief, with a PPE warehouse fire that occurred on July 20th 2021. This inferno raged on for 22 hours and brought in resources from across Erie, Niagara and Genesee Counties to fight the blaze. Brad commanded this operation and oversaw over 40 different departments, and two hundred firefighters. This was the largest fire response in the Town of Amherst to date.
The EMS operations of the fire department sparked Brad’s interest to peruse a nursing degree from D’Youville College, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2008. His full-time job is as a Pediatric Transport Nurse at Oishei Children’s Hospital, serving as the Team Coordinator, overseeing patient transport coordination and outreach education. Finally, in his “free time,” he is a part-time helicopter Flight Nurse and Paramedic with Mercy Flight WNY. Brad has transported over 1500 pediatric and adult patients in need of urgent medical care across our region and beyond.
The accomplishments Brad is most proud of are being a devoted husband to his wife Teresa and father to his daughter Sloan and son Carson. He credits his career success in part from his strong education obtained through the Williamsville School District, especially at South High School, and from the support and encouragement of his parents. Brad takes great pride in his community service and hopes to encourage younger generations to get involved in any type of activity or career that promotes community well-being.
