Carol Wincenc ('67) is one of today's international stars of the flute, appearing as a soloist with major orchestras around the world. She has premiered works written for her by many of today's most prominent composers and has numerous recordings featuring collaborative and solo performances. Most recently, the first in a series of Carol Wincenc Signature Editions featuring her favorite flute repertoire was published.

Ms. Wincenc was first prizewinner of the Walter W. Naumburg Solo Flute Competition and is presently a professor of flute at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. As a result of her fascination with the flute and its family of instruments, Ms. Wincenc created and directed a series of International Flute Festivals at the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul. The overwhelming success of these festivals led to a sold out U.S. tour, which included performances in New York and San Francisco. In addition, Ms. Wincenc is in great demand as a chamber musician and is a flutist with the New York Woodwind Quintet.

Equally in demand abroad, Ms. Wincenc has given acclaimed performances in England, France, Germany and Poland as well as many other counties. Among her travels, she has performed with the London Symphony, the English and Stuttgart chamber orchestras, and at the international music festivals in Aldeburgh, Budapest, Tivoli and Frankfurt. Ms. Wincenc currently resides in New York City with her husband, baritone Douglas Webster, and their eight-year old son, Nicola. She has performed locally, April 9, 2000 with the Amherst Symphony Orchestra.
