David J. Young ('87) is the Executive Director of Buffalo Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (BNHS), a citywide nonprofit organization that helps people purchase and maintain their homes.
In his work to help city homeowners, Mr. Young works closely with the City of Buffalo, the Greater Buffalo Association of Realtors, local banks, lending institutions and insurance companies. Currently, he is implementing a countywide program that will include the towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Hamburg and West Seneca.
While a student at East High School, Young was a member of the Chorale and participated in county and state music festivals as a member of the chorus and as a soloist. He also served as vice president of his high school senior class. Young went on to attend the University of Rochester where he served on the student senate for two years and graduated with honors in 1991 earning a degree in Urban Studies. He worked in Rochester as the assistant development manager of Opportunities, Inc. and as the housing coordinator for Northeast Area Development. He returned to the Buffalo area in 1994 as housing program manager for Broadway-Fillmore Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. and assumed his current position one year later.
Young is a member of the board of directors of the King Urban Life Center and Turner-Carroll High School. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Buffalo and is active in the Junior Achievement Program, serving as a guest lecturer for schools and business throughout Western New York.
